Eleven AI tools, eleven different pricing pages, none of them easy to compare at a glance — and the numbers move often enough that a review from six months ago is already unreliable. This page exists to fix that: every plan below was checked directly against the vendor’s own pricing page on July 10, 2026, with a source link so you can re-verify it yourself.

All prices are monthly-billed USD unless noted; annual billing is usually 20–50% cheaper per month across these vendors. Prices verified against each vendor’s own pricing page on 2026-07-10 — always confirm on the vendor’s site before subscribing, since AI tool pricing changes often.

Quick pick: the three general chatbots

All three have a real free tier and land near $20/mo for their standard paid plan. See the full breakdown above for higher tiers.

What’s worth flagging beyond the numbers

Writesonic isn’t a budget AI-writing tool anymore. Its current pricing page sells an “AI search visibility” platform — tracking how a brand shows up across ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews — starting at $79/month with no free tier. If you’re here comparing AI writing tools specifically, Writesonic no longer fits that comparison the way it did a year ago. [TODO: verify this positioning is still current before citing Writesonic in any writing-tool roundup.]

Copy.ai’s pricing has a steep cliff. The $29/month Chat plan is genuinely affordable, but the next tier up jumps straight to $1,000/month — there’s no mid-market option. It’s built for either a solo user on Chat or a company buying workflow automation at scale, with nothing in between.

“Free” doesn’t mean “unrestricted.” ElevenLabs’ free tier explicitly excludes commercial use — you legally can’t monetize anything you make on it. Descript and Synthesia’s free tiers export with a watermark. Read the fine print before you build something you plan to publish or sell on a free plan.

Jasper is priced per seat. Its $69/month Pro plan is per user, so a 3-person team is $207/month before any add-ons — factor that in before comparing it directly to per-account pricing at Copy.ai or Writesonic.

How to use this table

Match the tool to the job, then filter by your budget within that category — paying more for a chatbot than you need is the most common overspend we see. A few starting points:

  • Just want a general AI assistant? Start free on ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini — see our full three-way comparison for which fits your workflow, and don’t pay for a second one “just in case.”
  • Need AI writing help for a business? Jasper and Writesonic are no longer the cheap options in this category — check our current AI writing tool picks before assuming either is the default.
  • Editing audio or video, or generating a voice/avatar? Descript, ElevenLabs, and Synthesia all have a workable free tier — test on free before paying, and confirm commercial-use rights if you’re publishing the output. More detail in our AI video & voice tools guide.
  • Automating meeting notes? Otter and Fireflies are priced closely; the deciding factor is usually integrations and per-meeting minute caps, not price. We break down the difference in our AI meeting notes comparison.

Frequently asked questions

Which AI tools have a genuinely usable free tier?

ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Descript, ElevenLabs, Synthesia, Otter, and Fireflies all have a free tier you can do real work in, not just a trial. Jasper and Writesonic have no ongoing free tier — Jasper offers a 7-day trial, and Writesonic's current plans start at $79/month. Copy.ai's cheapest tier (Chat, $29/month) has no free option either.

What's the cheapest way to try AI voice or video generation?

ElevenLabs' free tier (10,000 credits, about 10 minutes of audio) is the cheapest entry point but excludes commercial use — its $6/month Starter tier is the cheapest plan that lets you legally use the output commercially. Synthesia's free tier (10 minutes/month, watermarked) is the cheapest way to test AI avatar video, though removing the watermark requires the $29/month Starter plan.

Why did Writesonic and Copy.ai get so much more expensive?

Both have repositioned their core product in 2026. Writesonic's pricing page now sells an 'AI search visibility' platform (tracking how brands appear in ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews) starting at $79/month, not a budget AI-writing tool. Copy.ai still has an affordable $29/month Chat plan, but its higher tiers jump straight to $1,000+/month workflow-automation pricing aimed at larger teams. If you came looking for a cheap AI writing assistant, neither is the fit it used to be — see our picks in the [best AI writing tools guide](/guides/best-ai-writing-tools) instead.

Do I need to pay for more than one AI chatbot (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini)?

Almost never. All three offer a real free tier and land in the same $20/month range for their standard paid plan. Most people are better served picking one based on fit — see our full [ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini comparison](/compare/chatgpt-vs-claude-vs-gemini) — and using a second tool's free tier only for occasional cross-checking.

How often does this pricing change?

Often enough that you should treat any AI tool's price as a snapshot, not a fact. Every price on this page was checked directly against the vendor's own pricing page on the date shown; several (Gemini, ChatGPT's Go/Pro tiers) had changed within the prior few months of our check. We revisit this page periodically — but always confirm on the vendor's site before you subscribe.

Is annual billing worth it for these tools?

Usually, if you're confident you'll stick with the tool for a year — most of these vendors discount annual billing by 20–50% off the monthly rate (Fireflies and Otter's Pro plans are roughly half-price annually, for example). The risk is the opposite of the savings: AI tool categories change fast, and a cheaper annual plan locks you into a tool that might be leapfrogged in six months. Start monthly, switch to annual once you're sure.
